Papers of the Tredwell family of Greenwich Village, New York City. Members of the family represented by the documents include Seabury, Sarah, Phebe, Mary, Julia, Gertrude, and Samuel Tredwell. Collection consists of copybooks primarily containing essays and poems about various subjects prepared for school and includes copies of personal letters from 1838-1861; also includes a copybook by Lottie Woodward, 1871. Roll books maintained by Phebe Tredwell for Sunday School lessons at St. Bartholomew's Church in Lower Manhattan, 1863-1872; and notes she took in reference to sermons, 1845-1866. Cashbooks of Samuel Tredwell, 1843; and letters by him concerning scientific and political issues, 1842. Will of Seabury Tredwell, 1865; and copy of will of Julia and Phebe Tredwell, originally prepared in 1874. Correspondence among family members about personal affairs; postcards sent to Gertrude Tredwell, 1907-1908; and some genealogical information. Abstract of title and indenture for property in Shrewsbury, New Jersey; and legal documents concerning sale of land in Brooklyn, 1883. Financial documents and papers concerning handling of Tredwell estate, 1921-1924. In addition, photographs of the Tredwell family, mostly albumen prints and a few tintypes, 1865-1905; many of the photographs are identified.
